Excelsior High School was founded in 1931 by notable Jamaican educator Wesley A. Powell.  It had as its genesis, the goal of providing a sound secondary education to Jamaicans regardless of their social status. Today, the school, situated at 137 Mountain View Avenue in Kingston, Jamaica has grown from the five students it began with on Mr. Powell’s verandah to a co-educational, multi-tier institution offering primary, secondary and tertiary education.

The high school continues to provide education to a wide student base.

Excelsior High is noted for instilling in its graduates a stirring and passionate love for the school.

It is this love for Excelsior that has spawned alumni groups in Kingston, Jamaica, Florida, New York and Toronto where hundreds of alumni continue to focus on the school’s growth and development.
